Stainless steel 202
Stainless Steel Scrap 202 is an austenitic stainless steel scrap containing a higher percentage of manganese (Mn) and lower nickel (Ni) than grades like 304. It is a cost-effective alternative used in applications that require moderate corrosion resistance and formability.
Chemical Composition (Typical Range):
✅ Chromium (Cr): 17.0% – 19.0%
✅ Nickel (Ni): 4.0% – 6.0%
✅ Manganese (Mn): 7.5% – 10.5%
✅ Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.0%
✅ Carbon (C): ≤ 0.15%
✅ Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03%
✅ Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.04%
✅ Iron (Fe): Balance
Key Features:
✅ Cost-Effective: Due to its lower nickel content, it is more affordable than other austenitic stainless steels like 304 and 316.
✅ Good Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in moderately corrosive environments.
✅ Formability & Weldability: Easy to form and weld, making it suitable for a variety of manufacturing processes.
✅ Magnetic Properties: While generally non-magnetic, 202 stainless steel can be slightly magnetic when cold-worked.
✅ Good Toughness: Offers better toughness than many other alloys in its category.
Applications:
✅ Kitchenware & Appliances: Used in cookware, sinks, and household appliances.
✅ Architectural Applications: Suitable for roofing, siding, and structural components.
✅ Automotive Parts: Common in exhaust systems and trim pieces.
✅ Food Processing & Chemical Industries: Used in equipment that doesn’t require the high corrosion resistance of 304.
✅ Welding & Manufacturing: As a lower-cost option, it's used in the production of various industrial equipment.
