Stainless steel 309
Stainless Steel Scrap 309 is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic stainless steel known for its excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and superior strength at elevated temperatures. It is primarily composed of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and iron (Fe) and is used in environments where corrosion resistance and thermal stability are crucial.
Chemical Composition (Typical Range):
✅ Chromium (Cr): 23.0% – 25.0%
✅ Nickel (Ni): 12.0% – 15.0%
✅ Manganese (Mn): 2.0% – 3.0%
✅ Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.0%
✅ Carbon (C): ≤ 0.20%
✅ Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03%
✅ Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.045%
✅ Iron (Fe): Balance
Key Features:
✅ High-Temperature Resistance: Offers excellent oxidation resistance and strength in high-temperature environments (up to 1,100°C/2,000°F).
✅ Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in acidic environments and oxidizing chemicals.
✅ Enhanced Strength: Maintains high tensile strength even under elevated temperatures.
✅ Good Weldability: Suitable for welding and forming, though it requires proper welding techniques to avoid sensitization at elevated temperatures.
✅ Non-Magnetic: Typically non-magnetic, but may become slightly magnetic after cold working.
Applications:
✅ High-Temperature Environments: Common in furnaces, kilns, and heat exchangers, where resistance to thermal expansion and oxidation is essential.
✅ Chemical & Petrochemical Industries: Used for reactor vessels, piping, and heating elements.
✅ Aerospace & Aviation: Found in components that require high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
✅ Power Generation: Often used in boiler tubes, turbines, and other high-heat environments.
✅ Food Processing & Pharmaceutical Industries: Used in environments requiring heat resistance and sanitary conditions.
